The San Gabriel Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., (SGV-NCNW) was chartered in 1990 by Dr. Dorothy Shepherd. Some of our many programs include working with various children’s homes, missions and women’s shelters. We provided services to these organizations by working directly with the agency or group and by providing needed items such as toiletries, food, clothing and human care. SGV-NCNW sponsors and supports various programs that promote our heritage such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations, Black History programs and Kwanzaa. SGV-NCNW is a member of the Inland Valley Area of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., sections. This is a network of volunteers that sponsors educational, economic, social, culture and scientific self-help projects in various communities throughout Southern California. We empower through programs such as; Young Legends youth section, Young Women Auxiliary, Women in History, Inland Valley Black College Summit, Youth Summer Engineering Camp, Health and Fitness Workshops, Foothill Aids, Hospitality, Circle of Sisterhood, Prayers. We partner with; Bethune, Recognition Luncheon, Mt Sac College, Walnut Family Festival and Parade, HBCU Tours, Top Ladies of Distinction, CAAP, Legacy Roundtable, NAACP, Sororities. SGV-NCNW is committed to serving the community and makes every effort to bring new visions to the section for ongoing improvement and making the youth in our community the best and the brightest. We hope that you will become a part of the exciting things that we are doing in the community by joining the San Gabriel Valley Section. Meetings are held the first Saturday of each month at: South Coast Air Quality Management District in Diamond Bar, California. The world we envision will be better for us all as we make the Bethune dream and tradition our own…. Dorothy Irene Heights |
