WHO WE ARE
The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) was founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune. The mission of NCNW is to advance opportunities and the quality of life for African American women, their families and communities. NCNW has national headquarters in Washington, D.C., three international field offices -- Dakar (Senegal), Harare (Zimbabwe), and Cairo (Egypt) -- and 263 community based sections nationwide.
The National Council of Negro Women Inc., San Gabriel Valley (NCNW-SGV) section was chartered in June 1990. Some of our many projects include working with various children’s homes, missions and women’s shelters. We provide services to these organizations by working directly with the agency or group and by providing needed items such as toiletries, food, clothing, or human care.
NCNW-SGV sponsors and supports various programs that promote our heritage such as Martin Luther King celebrations, Black History programs and Kwanzaa.
NCNW-SGV is a member of the Inland Valley Areas of NCNW sections. This is a network of volunteers that sponsors educational, economic, social, cultural and scientific self-help projects in various communities in Southern California.
Every endeavor NCNW-SGV pursues is in furtherance of our mission to improve life for the men, women, and children of our community. Every endeavor is done to fulfill the Legacy of Mary McLeod Bethune.
